“O Holy Night” by Michael Tinholme / Arrangement Kim Hansen

Saturday, December 15th, 2012

Let children teach us what we should already know

We are the same

We need each other

Like the right hand needs the left

And the left eye needs the right

To see the full picture and all the answers

We naturally bring to each other

Let children teach us what we should already know

That our first inclinations are to accept each other

And we all thrive on love and hope

That people are more alike than different

And if all we look for are differences

That is all we will find

Michael Tinholme’s “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “When Winter Falls on New York”

Sunday, December 2nd, 2012

MT_XmasPromoCover“I’ll Be Home for Christmas” is one of those classic melancholy Christmas songs that as a singer I am naturally attracted to and it’s one of my favorites. It’s funny what singers think about when they sing songs, for me “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” takes me back to memories of my childhood as an army brat, when my dad was stationed in some far off danger. It reminds me of the hole left open in our family when he was away and brings me back to the very real Christmas wishes that me and my brother had that we would find him safe at home on Christmas morning.

It seems the holidays always intensify our love and our feelings of longing for those we love who are far away. I read once that there is no act of love more noble than when it is held and nurtured by someone who can not realize it. We’ve all seen the recent devastation brought to the East coast by hurricane Sandy and the tragedy and sadness that this storm brought to the people along the New Jersey shore and to Brooklyn, Breezy Point Queens , Long Island, Staten Island and all up and down the Eastern seaboard. In just a few days thousands of people in these areas were displaced and many lost everything. While the storm brought heartbreak it also showed the rest of the world that Americans are always willing to pitch-in and help each other.

It makes me proud to say that I live in a country where people, like my brother Mark a minister who lives in New Jersey, were out in the cold and rain trying to help neighbors who needed it. Like my brother says “you can’t do everything, but you can do something.” For you out there reading this that is what I hope you will do, do something. There are more families homeless and more kids on the streets and there are many fine organizations, like Covenant House, The Red Cross, Salvation Army and many others, that are poised and at the ready to give immediate help to these families and kids. So I encourage you to do something and to lend your support.

It is my prayer and most sincere hope that those who have been harmed and injured by hurricane Sandy will find the love and compassion of their neighbors and that they will be home soon and that winter falls more gently this year.

John Lennon’s “Happy Christmas-War is over” by Michael Tinholme featuring Hall of Fame guitarist Steve Lukather and an All-Star Band

Sunday, November 11th, 2012

The world has changed a lot since John Lennon’s passing. Where once poets and artists spoke truth to power no matter the party now we live in an age where poets and artists line up on the Its Christmas Time in the City CD CoverRight and Left to call each other illegitimate.  No longer do we hear artists calling for unity now they ask us to choose a side. John Lennon was a special artist and poet in that he took no political sides and he imagined for all of us the freedom to express our individual views and interests without fear and reprisal. His music tells us that as human beings we are so much more alike than different and all people have legitimate concerns and points of view. He also understood that people take political sides, and while it might serve the political power brokers, this shouldn’t make people on all sides of todays issues and all people of goodwill adversaries. And as he observed while nations are separated by physical boarders it shouldn’t mean that they are natural enemies and that war is not the answer.

For people all across our country and around the world these are very challenging times to live in. People are struggling everywhere to live and take care of their families and to get through another day of the world’s turmoil. While the political artists, pundits and commentary are trying to tell us that we are more divided then ever and ask us to choose sides, I believe we all know that we have to come together. This is the spirit that lives in John Lennon’s music. This is the unavoidable message that will endure through the ages.   To you out there listening it was a great joy to record John Lennon’s classic “Happy Christmas-War is Over” one of my favorite songs. I hope this re-release will remind us all of what we have in common and I wish you all Peace, Joy and Everything Wonderful.

Thank you for listening.

Catalina’s With a Band of Greats!

Friday, December 31st, 2010

When I began this journey just a few years back with a short meeting with Tom Fowler I had no way of knowing then that it would develop into such a wonderful music career where I’d be recording and working with some of the best and accomplished musicians and artists in the music business today.

If someone had told me then that I would be recording with the likes of Tom, Walt and Bruce Fowler Gary Novak, Mike Miller, Albert Wing, Jeff Babko, and my old friend Steve Lukather as well as a long list of musical geniuses I would have told them that they were crazy. And this dream still continues to unfold wonderfully.

I recently had the honor and great pleasure of taking the stage at the world famous Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles  with Mike Miller who recorded on all my CD’s, Tom Brechtlein, who I studied drums with for a short time, Reggie Hamilton one of the greatest bass players of all time, and pianist/ composer David Witham.

After being in and out of recording studios for the last couple of years it was such a great pleasure to sing and perform in front of such an enthusiastic audience.

It was also great to have kids from Covenant House there and I want to thank all the kind and generous contributors that made it possible.

I will never forget the kindness of Manny and Catalina to me and the band. I’m thrilled and humbled to report that I will be making many other appearances at Catalina’s in 2011.

I want to wish everyone out there listening all the blessings of the holiday and a great 2011!

Happy New Year!

Michael Tinholme

Michael Tinholme Xsamba Dance Track

Xsamba on its way to Radio and Television Stations

& Music/News outlets around the world!

On September 10th Blue Planet Records will be releasing my new dance single “Xsamba” to radio stations, television outlets and Music/News Media around the world.

Xsamba the Real Story

This song came out way beyond my expectations, especially the dance track. And the arrangement by Mike Miller and Nathan Inouye is a killer. I’ve always been a big fan of Latin Jazz and Latin Rock-n-Roll. The artists that come to mind are of course Herb Albert, Arturo Sandoval, Sergio Mendes, Tito Puente, Carlos Jobim, Sting, Carlos Santana, Marc Anthony and Shakira.

I guess you could say that this song is about the missteps of romance and how exciting but yet frustrating the pursuit of love can be. To all of you out there listening I hope your romance or the pursuit of it is more exciting than frustrating and perhaps a little Xcentric.

Thanks again for listening,
Michael Tinholme
